Hello all,
I noticed today that one of my Zebra Danios was acting really strange. It wasn't moving around much with its school and in fact when it stayed stationary the bottom half of it would start to drift downward. After observing it for a while and noticing some strange marks on it, I moved it out of my 15g into the currently unoccupied 10 gallon so as to QT it from the rest of my fish. When doing so I was able to get a better look at the sick little lass. On the top of its body there is what appears to be scale damage and on the body right behind the gills there are visible red spots which are similar in color to the gills. The fish goes through boats of random activity where she'll swim all over the tank but, eventually she'll come to settle just above or actually on the gravel. Gill activity would seem to suggest the fish is having a hard time breathing.Any ideas on what this sounds like?

As I said, I moved the danio into my 10g tank and added a dose of Melafix to the tank. However, I don't know how much good it'll really do.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

what are your water's parameters? especially ammonia and nitrites....most people on here will ask you that to help in diagnosing your problem. is it a cycled tank? if you read these threads you will see i am having tank issues now as well

ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates under 5. The tank is cycled, yes.

Just an update: The red spots on the body of the danio yesterday have turned into open sores in some areas today. The sores are right around its pectoral fins. I'm continuing to treat with Melafix and hoping for the best.

Sounds bacterial... without pics it's really hard to say. I'd add Pimafix to the treatment. Definitely keep and eye on your other fish. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! I'll look into getting some Pimafix. After looking more closely at the infected Danio I've noticed that its stomach area is also starking to become rather red which leads me to believe there might be some internal bleeding or the like going on. I'm almost to the point where I think it'll be easier for the little guy if I euthanize it.
