Apple just introduced this tablet/huge iphone device. I think it's a cool product but I don't know how its going to fair up to the other tablets and touchscreen computers coming out, it literally seems like a giant iPhone.
thoughts?

Read some reviews, but a lot of them weren't very positive. I think because of the hype over the tablet, people were expecting it to have more features than it has. Cost is a bit much too. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/01/ten-things-missing-from-the-ipad/ this had some interesting info on it.
Me I'm still waiting on iphone being carried by a carrier other than at&t.

Yeah it just seems like a bigger version of an ipod touch to me (which I have). Doesn't seem to be much worth shelling out that much money for. Of course you have to buy adapters for a usb port and who even knows what will work with it. Games supposedly are mediocre at best. I already have a laptop which has done me fine since I've had it and is as portable as I need something with this function to be. Not on the top of my wishlist by far...

This will likely catch on with some schools. I know teachers could find ways to use this in the classroom. The district I work in has about 30 iTouches so I'm sure they'd go for a few of these.

As an admitted Apple hater, all I think it is, is simply a bloated iPhone. You'd be much better off buying a cheaper Netbook, who cares seriously about a touch screen, the on screen keyboard will take up a decent amount of the screen to be usable by the human fingers, with a netbook you get a keyboard. Its simply a fashion statement to me, and like all Apple products its over priced, $500 for a basic model + a monthly charge for internet, its a joke!
The only decent thing I can work out about it is the screen resolution being able to watch 1080p on it, but to be honest, the screen is so small its almost pointless to watch 1080p on it, you barely notice the difference on a 32 inch tele between 720 and 1080, and on a screen that small I personally think you won't see any difference what so ever!
The problem is that Apple could stick their logo onto anything and "blind" people would buy it because of Apple's popularity. Its too over hyped as well, they're almost pretending that is the first 'real' tablet, but they've been around for years, its only because of Apple that people so suddenly want one. :spam:

yeah they have run some stats, and quite a few iphone users say they would gladly shell out the 600-900 bucks for it.
I call it sheepism. Its a touch screen tablet with apples name on it. Touchscreen tablets are nothing new, just never had a little apple on em before.
I will say that it is cheap for a touch screen tablet, but, probably not as many features either (like it was said, its a bloated iphone), plus its an apple (which is a whole other problem for me)

There's a rumor that Verizon will be getting the iphone some time this year

Yep heard the rumours, but then at the same time heard other rumours that it wasn't going to happen. Would be nice though. At&t is very sluggish here.

this might be a cool addition. My dad is doctor and just updated his practice with a laptops and can become electronic clipboards displaying the charts and everything of the patient. The iPad might be good for this but the current set-up is probably a lot more reliable and fast.
being a very loose Apple follower and a photographer, I was excited for it. I can save so much just getting a regular tablet though, I already have an iPod touch.
