I can't believe my eyes!
Took the NitrIte test, went a little pink, then when I looked back it was clear!
Took the ammonia test, clear
Took the NitrAtes test 20 ml/g
which means ladies and gentlemen, my tank has CYCLED!
Wooow.....
So next phase, 50% water change...
thanks for all your advice on this part on the project :)

If your nitrates are only 20, you don't need to do a huge change. Probably 30% would be plenty. Did you add ammonia every day or just once?

Added ammonia every day.
for the 1st part i added the amount it took to get the tank to read 5ppm,
then when the NitrItes spiked, i half'd ammonia and continued to add that amount each day.

I was daunted by the fact of doing this more so because its the first time and having a large tank thought it was going to take months.
I have to say that reading the "sticky" and following the guides from the members the cycle jigsaw fell into place!
What's better still is that I had 2 Chinese algae eaters that I dropped into the tank on day one, it took me the best part of 2hrs to fish them out after reading the posts, they are alive and well in my goldfish bowl and I'm sure they will be very happy to get into there new home later tonight!
Off to start the water changes and read the next part of the cycle on the sticky!
Thanks alot!

Nice job and I'm glad the stickie helped some since I wrote it. :) Don't wait too long to buy some fish so your bacteria won't die off.

Water change is completed,
took a PH reading, and results are 8.5 so Alkaline,
I'm going for the Amazon aquarium
6 Scalare ( P scalare)
2 pair of A curviceps
4 pair of A Maronii
2 ancistrus (plecos)
1 Pair Severum
Does that sound good or could i have some more fish? (or less!)
It could be that I cant get the above which means i will have to get what I can.....

Hey, great job with your cycle. Congrats! Can't help you with your stocking question though, not familiar with any other than the plecos and severum.

Thank you!
Spent the last hr calling the few shops we have here, most fish come in from Singapore,
They have some Frontosa, Africa Prince and from what I could make out African Cichlids,
I read that you can't mix continents when it comes to stocking this species,,,
mhhhhh,
But I need to get something in my Tank as I'm away for 4 days so dont what the bacteria to die off...
