Could you get a net breeder, its a square net which sticks to the side of your tank so you dont have to remove the babies from the tank, just put them in the net, they are very cheap from an LFS.

Or you could put lots of places in for the fry to hide in.

If you don't go with willyleigh's suggestion (which i think is a good one) make sure to put some nylon stocking or sponge over the intake of the filter in the storage tank so they don't get sucked in. Heck, make sure you do it on your main tank if they're staying in there!

You could add some java moss/fern or other plants to the tank for them to hide in. My live bearer tank with guppies has a fake cabomba and the 3 fry that we have like to hide in it.

Remember too, that your platies will continue to do this. You will probably have loads of fry regularly and be looking at trying to save them constantly, then you will have a bunch of platies that you may not know what to do with! If you aren't looking to end up with 100+ platies you may just want to give them some plants to hide in and allow the other fish to eat what can't escape....the quickest will survive and you will have just a few babies grow to adulthood instead of a hundred! And in a few months those babies will start to breed new babies for you!

Kimmers is right on. The only way to stop the breeding is to separate them.

i dont mind if a few get eaten after this lot i just want to have some more fish, and keeping the ones i bred from this lot is cheaper than buying them, if they continue to breed my glass fish, spangled perch and turtle will have a free feed, i just want these ones to survive because they are bright red!!!

Personally, I think keeping them in a breeder net for a few weeks in the tank is easiest. You don't need a separate container/filter/heater and it is easy to just pick it up a little to drain some of the water out and as you put it back down, fresh water flows back in. It is quite large enough to safely raise around 20 fry to a nice healthy size. If you wish to allow them to grow to full size to use as feeders, a 10 gal tank is great with a sponge filter.
