Thats a nice sized tank but it does limit the cichlid choices.
You will have to stick with mid sized fish or just one larger cichlid.
Got any favorites?

What is the footprint of your 65G? You could do some nice Thorichthys along with some Brochis and large bodied tetras.

Well i was told a 55 gallon is a good tank for cichlids.... but i dont really like the skinny part of the 55...so 36x18x24 I think is better in IMO....Its might be a foot shorter long wise...but its 6 inches more front to back......
Yea i know i have to deal with Dwarf cichlids or midsize nothing like big enough to fill a skillet up with. Thats a very bad choice of words

Horizontal space, length, is in most people's views the prime marker for what can be stocked in the tank. That is why a 55g is a superior tank to a 65g for most fish.
With that said, there are still plenty of great cichlids you can stock in a 3' tank. Ever kept apistos? Great little fish.
