About three weeks ago, I decided I wanted something a little different in my 5 gallon. I looked around a little and finally settled on RCS. When I went to my lfs, the only ones they had were very small, and I was afraid the HR's or betta just might be able to get them in thier mouths. They told me they were getting another shipment in, and they'd be a bit bigger, so I waited.

I went back a few days later and picked up six of them. The only thing was they weren't red at all. The employee informed me that the ones they get in aren't all that red, these were almost clear, but I went ahead with the purchase anyway.

After being in the tank for a day or so, some of them turned bright, and I mean bright, red. Almost looked like little cooked lobsters. Anyway, a few of them were still not very colorful. I did some research and determined that this was the difference between male and female. I just love watching these little guys, they're just cool.

This morning when I lit the tank, I was surprised to see a few aliens zipping around. Upon closer inspection I found out these weren't alien at all, they were baby RCS! My intial thoughts about them being consumed returned, but after a few minutes of observation, it was obvious they weren't going to allow themselves to be caught. Fast little buggers!

Just wanted to share!

As long as they got some places to hide out, you should have some minishrimp survive. Very hard to spot when they are just a day or two old, very clear. Something I've found cool is when you feed them, you can sometimes see the food going through their system. Like if you feed them some ground up fish flake that is red, you can see that red in them.
