YAY!

I went to a garage sale, and a guy had a home made 29g for 5$. The only catch was that a little bit of silicone wore off and it has to be a tiny bit resealed, no big deal.

Now, what to put in it...

cant have them. alberta outlawed them since they carry salmonella.

I have EVERYTHING already. planted, rocky, cichlid, saltwater, and hospital tanks.

The only thing i can think of is i could stick my betta in my 2g in it and plop in a few corys, or maybe a puffer. Im leaning towards letting the betta have it.

Orrrrrrr, 3 goldfish is a possibility, since all i have are a few spare filters, no heaters.

I dont like goldfish. I think they are the Pigs of Fishworld

Go Catfish Crazy on it! (upside down, a few pleco varieties, and a few corys are nice!) :thumb:

cant have them. alberta outlawed them since they carry salmonella.but yet it's ok to run around with small quantities of pot. maybe they should also ban chicken, pork, fish, peanut butter and dog food. :ezpi_wink1:

Kimmers said you could but up to 3 in a ten, so you could do like 6 dwarf puffers.

sergo

that seems like a lot of puffers in a 29.

They are dwarfs, so they are about the size of a pea, maybe a little bigger.

I must have them confused with Figure 8 puffers and spotted puffers.

Im slaving away scraping that one side to re-seal where there was a leak

or i have a cool idea.

What if i made it a show tank, and had a huge rock background, and filled the tank 40% and had the betta and live bamboo?

The bamboo would rot.

They have personality too! I saw my first one a couple of weeks ago. I say the tag that said dwarf puffer, and i looked, and i looked, and i couldnt find the little bugger. Turns out he was right infront of my face! They are so cool looking, it looks like they have a perpetual smile on their face! Its cool!

This guy has written a kind of 10 reasons why no dwarf puffers... Check it out it has some helpful info too

I had 2 of them, an adult and a baby, in my old 33g with TONS of small fish, and lots of large fish. Mine took frozen food, flakes, and crickets. I had 2 angels in the tank too, a wild one and domestic, and the puffers left their fins alone.

That guy is trying to persuade someone out of puffers.

Rue
04-29-2007, 04:02 PM
No, he's right...I also think they do best in a puffer only tank...

they do, but somehow i got lucky.

Haha damn you have alot of tanks. And it most certainly is garage sale season. I have been out after school all last week and plan to be out this week too. Hopefully I can get some good deals.

i have so many tanks i think im gonna go crazy.

johnicd

I was just given a 50 gallon for free. Has stand, aerator(sp?) and filter. Looks like I have a new project for the next coming weeks.
edit: what do you all suggest for a filter. I have the heater covered but I am at a loss filter wise.

Anything over 40 gallons and I switch to canisters vs. HOBs. You'd do well with an aquaclear 110 HOB or with an Eheim 2028 canister. Those would be my choices, anyway.

cocoa_pleco
05-08-2007, 01:13 AM
anything 20g or up i use canisters, mainly fluvals. Ive found the tank cycles faster with canisters and they are 0 work. Ive had my fluvals for 1.5 months and havent had to change any media, and the nitrates/nitrite/ammonia are 0

gm72
05-08-2007, 01:20 AM
I wanted to put a canister on the 40 long, but there really isn't a good place to put it. For the 50 I would go with a canister as a first option, but their price can be prohibitive for some people.

johnicd
05-08-2007, 01:22 AM
Yeah the price is pretty dissapointing but Im not going cheap on this tank. Only the best for it so no expense is going to be spared.

gm72
05-08-2007, 01:25 AM
Good to hear. You'll be better off spending the extra money now. Far less work on your part and happier fish. I always mention the cost though, because $200 and change isn't much for some people but is impossibly expensive for others.

johnicd
05-08-2007, 01:42 AM
Yeah its guna be expensive but hey, I could be paying for the tank as well.

YaYgoldFish
05-08-2007, 01:50 AM
hm your electric/water bills must be soo high lol

gm72
05-08-2007, 02:00 AM
P, did you mean to type gm for me? Electric bills are high, yes, but we're on a well, so water bills don't exist!thumbs2:

cocoa_pleco
05-08-2007, 02:05 AM
My power bills are INSANE. With all the tanks running, its pretty bad

gm72
05-08-2007, 02:08 AM
What are your bills like? I pay around $130 a month.

Chrona
05-08-2007, 02:14 AM
Electric bill can't be that bad. 55g tank:

200w heater - on 6(?) hours
25w filter - on 24 hours
40w light - on 10 hours

2.2 kwh per day. 1 kwh is like 10 cents in the US. 22 cents per day, $6.60 per month. You spend more on other fish related items in that time (meds/food, etc)

gm72
05-09-2007, 01:09 AM
Yeah, I'm stuck. My home theater draws...well, draws a freakin' TON of power when I pump things up.

lol , my home theater is the same.

Drumachine09
05-09-2007, 01:58 AM
lol , my home theater is the same.

Oh yea, well my "home theater" consists of a RCA 20" tv, a ps2, and some old stereo speakers i piggy backed onto the existing ones. Beat THAT! lol

johnicd
05-09-2007, 02:19 AM
Lol lets not get started on how much wattage my home theater uses. 32" plasma, dvd/stereo surround system, x-box 360, x-box, wii. But anyway. I need some more room for this new tank. My room is crowded as it is.

cocoa_pleco
05-09-2007, 02:32 AM
What i do is stupid. I have a LCD HDTV, a 22 incher, beside the couch with the 360 and home theater, and a 50 inch one infront of the couch, and i multi-task at the same time. REALLY hurts the neck.

All my other systems are out away. I have EVERY game system but a wii and ps3. I even have the old ataris, coleco's, and a arcade machine

Chrona
05-09-2007, 02:34 AM
I have a movie theater screen and an Imax projector I stole in my living room. The sound system consists of several 1000 watt speakers and subwoofers. When I'm playing a movie, the whole town knows.

Also, my daddy can beat up your daddy.
