hi,

Found these brand new tanks on ebay, they are about 14l tanks come with a 200 lph hang on filter, The filter seems way to over powered for the tank and a 60lph filter seems more suited??
I would like to put a betta in it, would it be good to get a 25w heater for the tank?
Also would some real hardy like plants survive in the tank?
also iv read that bettas done like fast moving water and power filter and power heads are not recommend. so what sort or filter should be used?

thanks

well, 14l is about 4 gallons, so yea, a betta could go in there. The filter sounds a wee bit big for a betta. If you cant find a smaller hob, you could try a sponge filter, or you could use alot of floating plants to block the current. I also found a DIY site that told you how to make a current blocker, ill see if i can dig it up for ya. Some hardy plants would be great, provided you have enough light. A few are java moss, java fern, and anubias nana.

EDIT: HA! i found it! here is the link to the betta current blocker:

I have my betta in a 5gal and just have a nice silk plant located under the filter flow and it seems to be fine. I see him actually resting on the plant often right in the flow.

was thinking about getin a tropical 40g tank but I dont really have enough room, So looks like im gonna have a 3 gallon betta setup.
iv read alot about bettas now and I need a heater. What watt heater should I get I think the smallest ones avalible are 25w so looks like it will be 25w?
also what temp should the water be?
also do I need a ph tester the ph that comes out of my taps is about 7.

25w heater should be fine for a 3g set up. I found one on eBay for a good price. I keep my Betta at around 82F (what is that? around 27C) and he seems to like that. I think 7.0 Ph would be fine too. How nice to have Ph neutral water straight from the tap.

I was thinking about your post and seems that deciding between 40g and 3g would be tough. Have you thought about maybe a 10 or 25g community? The only reason I suggest it is because I started out with 1 betta in a 1g tank then quickly moved him up to a 5g community then had to move him to his own 2.5 g and now I have a 10g. I'm slowly inching up to bigger and bigger tanks. Maybe if I had started with a 10 or 25g I would still only have that one. :hmm3grin2orange: Yeah, right!
