Just bought a moon light tube for one of my lighting units and WOW it looks great! The fish are so much more active with it on as opposed to my normal sunlight one.

Here's a couple of pics with it on.

Wait...moonlight tube? It sounds like you replaced one of your daylight fluorescent bulbs with an actinic one.

I love it. I've heard of people using the colored tube protectors to achieve this same effect and others use colored cellophane on top the glass and under their light.

Looks like it too. I tried that on my malawi tank, looked neat but you couldn't admire the colours anymore, so I switched it back to the Power Glo.

Its a flourescent tube light as opposed to an LED. We have two 4ft light units in the tank, one is the normal daylight tube, and this is called Blue Moon Light. We only put it on in the evenings. Our fish aren't terribly colourful and we have several 'hiding' fish and this light on its own brings them out. They seem very relaxed with it on as opposed to skittish with the normal light on.

So you only turn on the right (or left???) side in the day time, so it looks lopsided???

Well yes, kinda, but the light still shines on the whole tank even when only one is lit. Its slightly darker on one side but we've always had it like that as the catfish like the slightly darker end. The whole tank is still illuminated though. We sometimes put both lights on and they blend together with colour.

Could you post a picture or link of this lighting system you have, I would be interested in taking a look at it. Thanks in advance.

The tubes are made by Interpet. Here is a link to the tubes, they are available from lots of sites on the web, this is just one i found.

it's definitley not 03 actinic. actinic is more in the purple/violet range. i use actinic on my tank to go from daylight to moonlight. (3 lighting cycles)

Glad everyone likes it, its our 'chill out' light for the fish, they seem to love it and all comeout for a nose when its on which is great. Its like a mellow deep ocean scene.

Thanks for the link. Looks interesting, but it seems a bit to bright (at least in you pictures) for my taste, seeing that my tanks are in my bedroom (guess that means I'm "sleeping with the fishes" LOL!) I think I'll be sticking to my old Marina LED's.

It certainly looks brighter in the pictures than it actually is. I'll see if I can take a truer picture tomorrow when I have time.
