Hello all. :22:

I was wondering if I could use petroleum jelly to apply a background to my fish tank. You know what I'm referring to? It's like a sheet of plastic and one side is usually black and the other side is blue.

Petco sells a product but I didn't see a list of ingredients. I have the background but am wondering if I can use a very thin layer of petroleum jelly and a credit card to smooth out any air bubbles to the back of my tanks.

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't want to paint the back of my tank as I want versatility for future changes of backgrounds.

Thank you!
Adrien

That will work, cooking oil will work as well.

Petroleum jelly works well. A lot of us have done this in the past. Vegetable oil may tend to get "crusty" over time while petroleum jelly stays "as-is."

Awesome!

I have all that I need. Petco is expensive in comparison to Petsmart. As far as supplies like plastic plants, filters, etc. I prefer Petsmart but they don't carry the jelly to use as an adhesive. Petco had the adhesive which came in a small tube for like $7!

Once I wanted a small tube of aquarium safe silicone and Petco wanted $9! Rapacious!!! I found aquarium safe silicone, same sized tube at Home Depot for $3.00. Now that's more like it!

I'm going to do this tomorrow as my Sunday afternoon project.

Off to the movies for me. :19:

Thanks for your responses. :)
