Yeah, doesn't technically fit into this category, but I figure if it's here instead of General Aquarium newbies to the site won't be automatically met with "Oh hey, I want to kill my fish." *bitter*

In any case, one of my two remaining Danios managed to nip herself on something or another fish was hungry - I don't really know.

So I left her alone for a while, thinking "It doesn't look too deep, it could heal." However, the skin and scales aren't healing. The hole is getting larger. I can see the flesh on her now, and possibly part of an organ. No one's been picking at her, it just seems as if everything is started to "fall out" of the hole. Must be painful, even if people say fish's senses aren't that strong.

After Chemistry I'll be putting her down, so, my euthanasia options would be welcome. Or at least direct me to an old thread discussing this. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your fish. Some people recommend ice water. A fish that small you can just cut off the head with sissors. It would be quickest.

I put the fish in a bag with tank water and place it in the freezer. As the water gets colder the fish is put to sleep.
You can then take it out on garbage day, bury it or compost.

Putting them in a dish and adding clove oil, then alcohol works as well (vodka or grain alcohol, but any kind should do, just make sure it is actually knocked out, or it will thrash as the alcohol actually burns them) . Clove oil knocks them out, then you can do what you want with them. Using a knife would be the quickest and easiest.

Oh well. Back now.

Going to move her to move her to a bag of tankwater, give her a bloodworm, then put her in the freezer.

In any case, thanks, but y'know... Not really.

My recommendation is put a container of water in the freezer for half an hour or so, until it's nearly frozen. The top should freeze over but you can break it through with your finger. Then drop the fish in, it will die instantly.

She's gone now, in any case.
