View Full Version : 25l tank...should I or shouldn't I?
Here's the story:
Mr. CT betta is still alive...the injuries are healing, although he's not out of the wood entirely yet...
Mr. Plakat betta has been living in his plastic container since Monday...with water changes...and is active and alert...
I need to check the water again...but my 55g should be cycled any second now...at which point I'll transfer the goldies and dojo from the 10g...leaving it free...
However...I fell in LUV with a 25l long tank at Petcetra...it's the perfect shape and size for a betta...comes with a filter...but it's $80...the 10g that I currently have is still selling for $40...but it doesn't have the appeal of the little 25l...
I KNOW I shouldn't go blow $80...but I WANT that adorable tank!!!

So do I but my wife won't let me. I'd love a little dedicated shrimp tank and I'd love something long and shallow to keep half a dozen of some sort of small cory. Can just picture it, big lump of planted wood at the back... some cabomba at the sides....
*drool*
Too bad you're not living closer...we could sneak off to Petcetra together...
...safety from spouses in numbers...
Mr. CT is still alive...swims to the top to gulp air...swims to the bottom to hide and rest...injuries look better today...but he looks thin...
Mr. Plakat seem content in his plastic container...I have him with me in the den to keep an eye out on him...
...I've resisted buying the 25l tank...but the draw is still strong...very very strong...
I'm also going to the Aquarium Club's monthly fish auction tomorrow...
I'm hoping for a bristlenose pleco...and to find the breeder of chocolate cichlids...can't buy one of those yet...

I want a shrimp tank now. Im gonna go find a empty 10g so i can make one
Er, didn't you just buy a 29 gallon?
Okay...I don't why it's so hard to find all info. in one place...but I finally found some good info. on plakats...
...I have a funny feeling he might not be as community-minded as the CT...
I REALLY think I NEED to BUY him that 25l tank...really I do...

What's the petcetera tank look like? For 80 bucks, you could get a nice 12 gallon Eclipse tank
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
It's a lovely little tank *sigh*. Shorter and longer than normal...PERFECT for a betta...
I'm not enamoured of the Eclipse tanks for some reason...
But yes...it's expensive for the volume...I'd be paying for the shape...

Well he said he was paying for the shape, so I decided to play off of that :)
Well, given that I'm just old enough to be Adriana's mom...I thought I'd let that one go...

She needs no airbrushing. When you see her on TV, that's exactly what she looks like, heh.
...well enough of super-models...I did it...I REALLY did it...
...I went to Petcetera...agonized...
...agonized some more...
...then went and bought the damn thing...
...now it's sitting in my car, in case I change my mind...

Take it, fill it, and get it running. Youll think that its too much work to return it and keep it
...I did it!...
...did all my tank maintenance...moved stuff around...and did some 'instant cycling'...hope it works...
...moved the seasoned filter from the 10g to the 25l...added 50% old tank water and 50% new...and Cycle (for what it's worth)...put in Mr. Plakat and th 6 Mystery snails in...and some Hornwort...
...tomorrow I'll pick up some gravel and a small heater...
Hopefully it's all good...
...at the moment the snails are doing some major cruising and Mr. Plakat is showing off to his reflection :hmm3grin2orange:

Congrats! Just so you know, contrary to popular belief, the bacteria isnt in the water. The bacteria likes to anchor itself to something, and doesnt float around. If you feel the glass on an established tank, you will feel the slickness. Thats the bacteria.
...now...what to do with the 10g? I'm thinking puffers...and then I can feed the mystery snails...and the other snails to them...and get a chance to really watch what they do...the ones at the LFS are always so small...
All I need for that tank is a heater...
cocoa_pleco

3 dwarf puffers are a cool idea.
I keep switching my mind on the 29g. Its either puffers, dwarf cichlids, or a mix of platys, tetras, and other community fish. Id probably plant it a bit.
I still have to make a hood, since its homemade, find a stand, buy a canister filter, buy a heater, buy gravel, buy ALL the other mumbo jumbo. It never ends
Yes, I know the bacteria isn't in the water...but I wanted some of the dirt that came with vaccumming...hopefully it will help keep the tank cycling properly from what it was...from a water parametre point of view...
...and if not...it likely won't hurt...

The dirty water (mulm) you vacuum up is basically the bacteria + waste. It'll help quite a bit.

It does help. whats how i cycled my 33g. I did water changes on my other FW tanks, and added the waste, and presto
MULM!!! LOL...that's the word I couldn't pull out of my mental files!
Need to reorganize up there...
These are crappy pics...but the best I can do at the moment...enough to give you an idea though...
This is the tank...with it's different shape
