Did I make the right choice?

I have a 55g with 1 Black Moor, 2 Calico fan tails, 1 pearlscale, 2 Apple snails. I have a penguin bio wheel 350 and a whisper 60 on the tank. I wanted to get a canister filter also but when I went to petsmart the guy said that it would be better if I got rid of the whisper and got an emperor 400. I did that. Do you think I made the right choice?

Sounds fine! I'm not that familiar with the Whisper though...why did he suggest you don't use it?

the emperor 400 can handle more than the 60. i think you'll be fine with that setup. the key to any tank is regular maintenance and frequent water changes.

the emperor 400 flows more water per hour. keep in mind, this are stats from the company. my 400 does a great job though, i must say. especially teamed with the eheim canister

I have both the penquin 350 and the emporer 400 on my 55. Between the two of them, they do great and I think one does just as good as the other.

canisters are by far the best. Fluval 305 would work

He said they used outdated technology and overall just sucked. He seemed to really hate them. It did come with the tank(it was a kit) so I kinda figured it was it true.

I would like to get a canister also. But theres no more room on the back of the tank to hang things. What can I do about that?
