View Full Version : Another Pleco ID thread....

So can you guys tell me what kind this is. I got him from a friend, and he doesn't remember what kind it was. He absolutely loves cucumber and grows in size very fast. It took him 2 months to double in size.

His angle is a bit weird here, but I wanted to grab a quick snapshot with his dorsal fin fully out.

Agree, looks like a gibbiceps, will grow into a monster given proper tank space and care. They really need at least a 6' tank, prefereably larger, to reach their full potential.

So technically he is not a Pleco? called a Clown Sucker?

No,its a plec.The book I have calls it a clown sucker but that name seems to be used very little.

Yeah, it's a sailfin. They're gorgeous when they are big. Good to see him eating veggies for you already. Be prepared for lots of waste.

Not to mention they grow pretty large; more than a foot long.

There are a few different colorations/patterns for what is called a sailfin.My sailfins spots are smaller and not as yellowish.Oh yeah,they do crap like a dog for sure.

Yea i siphon up his poo every evening. fun stuff :D
compared to the HRs which he shares the tank with, there is absolutely no visible waste from them.
