I've gotten black leaves on my ferns, cut off the black leaves and got a whole bunch of new stuff. Now the new stuff has also turned black. Not much to cut off this time as they are only 2".

I've heard they prefer a higher pH but I have high pH.

Black leaves on Java ferns is caused by a nutrition deficiency some where. :ssmile:

Agreed, the deficiency is most likely nitrogen or iron. Ferns do most of their nutrient absorbtion throughout the leaves so they do need some water column ferts available to them.

My ferns dind grow much and developed black spots on their leaves that eventually grew bigger and bigger and eventually punched through, leaving the leaves skeletonized.

After a single dose of Flourish (not Excel), new growth started and the leaves turned a healthy green. Its been about 2 months now and the difference in the plant is amazing.

surely those aren't the 12-14 java ferns I gave you?

my water is devoid of iron and the java looks good, maybe nitrogen?

Yeah, I'm guessing lack nitrogen, too.

Bet this helps:
