Hey everyone,
So, last week I changed the bulbs in my 15g to CFL 6500k and the difference is absolutely amazing. I'd like to change the bulb in my 5g to a CFL 6500k as well. I have an extra one laying around. It's a 13w bulb that effectively makes 60w of light. With that being said, this will pump approximately 12w/g into my little 5g tank. Is this too much light?

If I instead use a 10w=40w CFL will the then 8w/g be too much light for the tank as well?

:thankyouyellow: for your time

There will be a difference in lumens and light color but for actual output it wont be too much at all.Do you have plants?

If your 5g tank is planted...then I'd say got with it...but if not your just asking for algae.

Yes, my 5g is planted with Anacharis. That's one of the reasons I'd like to get the light changed up from the yellow lighting that's in there: for the good of the plant. However, my priority is my fish so, I don't want to harm it with too much light.

That will be a good light.Your fish will be fine.

The only light that I know of that is really hamrful to fish is black lights. I've read you can make them go blind by using them.

Thanks for the advice! I gave the extra light bulb I had a try but, it looked way too bright for my taste so, I can only imagine how the fish's eyes felt. It was effectively 60w for a 5g so, I'm going to pick up a 10w=40w CFL tomorrow and see if it isn't better.

Thanks again!
