Nice fish you have, how big are they?

Great looking oscar and JD!
Nice tank too.
Are you giving them each their own tank?
Its a lot better than cutting the tank in half with a divider. They need space.
I am guessing the two do not get along very well.

They get along well enough, but the JD likes to stay up late, and the O doesn't. That means scared oscar hitting the bottom of the hood in the middle of the night. That's bad for me and Osco.

They are both ~6-7"

Having that divider may cause problems with the two fish.If they were getting along before I would remove it.
I would also get them into a bigger tank real soon.
What size tank are they in now?

Currently in a 55, which is small, but only VERY temporary.

I would not advise anyone to try to keep these type of fish in this size aquarium for anything other than an emergency.

I'm glad you realize that. Its not good for them in so many ways.
It will cause aggression issues!

Oh, and the divider is there so the Osco can sleep without being startled. JD will swim around longer after the lights go out, and as soon as he bumps Osco just a little, Osco goes nuts and bangs the top of the tank and whatnot.

It probably wouldn't be so bad if I had them in the 75 with more room to swim around without collisions.

The 75 is the absolute minumum for the oscar without a divider. If you want to have them both happy in a tank you should consider something much larger.A 6ft tank with tall fake plants would make a big difference in how they get along.
You can find them for cheap if you watch the used places daily for great deals.

Well, I've got some of those 4'+ floating vine plant things. I planned to put a few of those in the middle of the 75 to make a sort of "wall" and let the remainder of the plant float on top. They are so much more friendly when they think that plant is protecting them from the doo-dee vacuum.

A botia I picked up at the LFS. Oscar won't touch him.

Also, my Convicts and fry. The parents have the most beautiful colors. I don't know if its because I take such good care of them or what, but they have blues, greens, reds and purples, depending on mood.

Also, they absolutely hate the camera around the Fry.

I've also had surprisingly good luck with my live plants. I really lucked out getting a (for the most part) sweet Oscar. He doesn't mess with other fish and hasn't dug up my live plants not one time.

Convict fry part 2 began yesterday. I'm going to need a convict pond pretty soon.

I just noticed that I didn't mention the Convict Fry in the pictures above.

What fish are in which tanks? I like the O a lot.

The Oscar, Green Terror, and "Lieutenant" Botia are in the 75 gallon w/sump.

The convicts and all fry are in the 55gal. Some of the convict fry will become occasional feeder treats for the O, but most of them will be going to the LFS for store credit. The LFS owner has seen quite a few of my fish and is very happy with how meticulous I am about water changes and cleaning.. I go by the "better safe than sorry" method of water changes and testing, as should most.

Sounds good, dont know how the O and JD will work, if they do it should be two 50% a week.

That was a temporary fix, and I have since re-homed the JD.

Thank you for the good advice, though.
