WTF.
On the news here, it said all the incandescent lights are being banned. That means aquarium and reptile ones too.
all because some hippies are trying to take out incandescent lights while theres factories using 2000X more energy makes no sense

Actually, I would agree with that. Fluorescent bulbs save YOU money in the long run, and I posted an article a while ago explaining how if each household in America switched one bulb to CF, the power saved would be enough for a small city.

True, but some reptiles need some special incandescent heat lamps, dont they??

Didn't think of that. I guess there could be exceptions, but those general purpose 40-100 watt bulbs should be replaced with Fluorescents.

yeah, thats true. They have to make exceptions, but for general use like lighting a room its a good switch
I'm fairly certain specialty bulbs will still be available...I don't think there are enough reptile keepers to affect global warming...

they should stop worrying about our dinky little lightbulbs (although i do use the new energy saving kind) and start worrying about those huge freakin rocket ships and airplanes clogging up the skies with pollution! seriously, how much fuel does one of those rockets burn?? those tanks are HUGE!!

Don't worry, it's not happening immediatly. From what I've been able to see, the ban would be gradual and only be fully in place around 2012.
I don't think they would ban them for specialty applications though. Reptile lights are there as much for the heat as the light.
It would also be funny to see cafeteria counters with red flourescents.:hmm3grin2orange:

I hope if this happens someone designs the smaller bulbs that fit the smaller tanks in a CF design. I would prefer to use CF in my smaller tanks because of the heat given off by incandescant but can't find them.

It's funny, The first thing I though about when they announced the ban was my lizards. I use a 60-100 watt light bulb to heat my tank, they don't need anymore then that, so I don't use a specialty bulb. It is the only incandescent bulb in our apartment. Our apartments management gave each apartment a set of compact fluorescents and we bought some for the lamps. I personally don't like the quality of light, but I am getting used to it. I figure if they ban the light bulbs I need, it won't matter much, I have 10 or so bulbs in my cupboard and that is more then enough to keep my tank running for the life of the lizards I have.

Probably. We aren't conscious enough to do such a "crazy" thing. Besides, lighting companies have lobbyists too ;)

While waiting for the US to follow suit, you can do your part and get some CF bulbs! I already replaced all the ones in the house that get used the most!

i hear the best way to go with complete solar panel power in your house is to purchase it with the house, and have it included in the mortgage. Any energy you dont use gets sold to the local electric grid, and you get paid! could you imagine YOU billing the COMPANY??

After Sept 11th attack when all planes were grounded the "Greenies" were drooling with anticipation with the data they intended to collect showing upper level pollution dropping since the planes were grounded. It actual went up instead of down.
Al Gore is running around yelling Global warming and the need for carbon offsets ( He is a major shareholder in the largest Corporation selling carbon offsets)
I've had CF bulbs all trough my house for years.

The EU has banned incandescent bulbs so soon in most European countries they will be banned.
...I suppose...for the greater good...we likely should just comply and give up our incandescents...
...but I'm stockpiling a bunch first!!!!
