I finally redid my 10 gallon today.

It used to look like this:

black fluorite. This was my first time rinsing sand. What a pain.

It's still pretty cloudy. Still no fish though.

I forgot what most of the plants are. There's a sword in the back and two java ferns. I would like to get some moss or something eventually but this is good enough for now. I think I might add some rocks too.

I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to put in there. Some cories and a school of something. Any suggestions? I might just go back tomorrow and get something. It's across the street and can't wait!

Thanks rich!

I saw a roseline shark in my LFS today. Super pretty. How many could I fit in there was a school of cories?

My perennial recommendation--white clouds!
Good luck with the set up, esp getting rid of the tannins. I'm still struggling...

I think I'll probably go with celestial pearl danios if I can get my LFS to order them for me

Good choice. Awesome, awesome little fish from what I've seen. But I'm a total beginner, so feel free to ignore my thoughts.

That said, from what I've read they come from shallow, heavily planted ponds (like rice paddies) in Myanmar. Cories seem to like pools off of the main rivers. The difference would be oxygen and water flow. Other people on here could be much more helpful than me. But you might want to find a happy medium between still, warm water and filter flow. Could be wrong though.

The wood is leeching tannins so the water is pretty brown for now.
I picked up a bolivian ram and 5 julli cories yesterday. I saw the ram and just could not resist. He's hanging out in the 10 gallon for now and I'll probably go back and get him a buddy and they can go in my 26 (with some fish rearranging).

My LFS is going to let me know if they can order in some celestial pearl danios for me on Tuesday when they get their list.

So here's a couple pictures

I got my celestial pearl danios today. They are so adorable and tiny, I should have got more than 8 I think.

The tank looks like this now. Pretty brown from the wood, but it's getting there. I tied some java moss the the smaller piece of wood too

The wood is still leeching tannins. It's really starting to get on my nerves. I'm almost to the point of wanting to take it out and boil the hell out of it.

I lost one of the CPDs. I don't know what happened.
And I plan on boiling the hell out of that wood this weekend

I've been boiling that damn log for a week and the water is just barely starting to get clearer. Plus I don't have a pot big enough for it so I have to turn it over every time I change out the water.

Liking the tank so far thumbs2: . This is just a matter of preference on my part, but I like to black out the back of my tanks. It hides all the wires, makes any black equipment in the tank less noticeable, makes colorful fish and plants stick out, and looks especially nice with black gravel. Kind of gives a showcase type feel to the whole tank as well; I think it would look pretty good in your tank. If you're interested, you can buy a big thing of black foam board from walmart for like $2-3 and cut it to size then just tape it to the back or I know some people that paint the backs of their tanks too.

The tank looks really nice, and those danios are really pretty, I've never seen them before!

Your corydoras are most likely actually three-lined (or threestripe) cories (C. trilineatus). Three-lines are much more common than C. julii and are often confused with them because they look SO darn similar. I have 6 three-lines in my 90 gallon, and like you, I bought them as "julii corydoras." But as I was looking online, I noticed the pictures of the juliis were not like the cories I had...

here are the three-lines (C. trilineatus):
http://aquaworld.netfirms.com/Siluroidei/Corydoras/Corydoras_trilineatus2.jpg

here are juliis (C. julii):
http://tropical-fish.ws/Common_Tropical_Fish/Catfish/corydoras_julii_x.jpg

Even though it's easy to see the difference here, you'd be surprised how often people get them confused!

Here's a site that will tell you about the cories:

Good luck, cories are definitely a good choice for your tank!

I fully intend to put a black background on this tank. I'll probably use the black plastic film type stuff that I used on my other tank

I think you're right. I had a feeling they weren't julli's when I bought them but never really looked into it haha

I put the black background on today before a water change. I'll post pictures later once the water settles back down.

I also got a new filter for this tank, I really hate the one that's on there now. I got an Aquaclear to replace the aqueon power filter. I'm not sure how to switch over though. Just take the filter pad thing and put it in the new one? Running both at once isn't really an option because of my hood.

Yeah I would probably just switch over anything in your filter that you can over to the other one to save as much BB as possible. Lookin' forward to the new pics with the background.

The wood is still boiling so it's not in there yet.
I think I might have to get another kind of background. This one is already starting to come off. I like the thin filmy one I used on my other tank better. But I think the smallest size is $14 or something. Or I could just paint it.

I only really did that to prove a point. You have a really nice photo there. I am fairly new to photography myself, but when I post pictures, my fish they have to meet a my personal standard. I was noticing that your photo was quite nice (fish pose etc) and with a little help, it was REALLY nice (IMO).

Ya did a great job!

My CPDs are slowly dying off. I only have five left now. I think they must have been sickly to begin with. So now I'm thinking of what to put in there instead.

I'm thinking of moving the cories from this tank into my other and getting a single fish or a pair of something for this one.

I think I'm gonna take off this stupid plastic background and paint it instead.
