The single surviving oto in my tank (1 of 8) seems to be doing just fine...so the mass deaths were not solely due to the water...

I wonder if I should try again, but this time drip acclimate them all more slowly?

What would you all do?

you could try the drip way. Mine never died from not drip acclimating, they just got caught in my filter

I think it all depends on the conditions at the LFS and the stock they get in. I heard all kinds of stories about otos dying left and right, but I got 3 from a LFS that takes good care of their tanks and keeps most of them planted, and did a 20 min float, 1/2 cup water every 10 minutes for an hour routine like I usually go, and had no problems. In fact, they started eating algae not 10 minutes after they hit the water.

I think I'll give it another shot...it's FISH DAY!!! tomorrow :19: ...if they got some in, I'll try again...

...but this is the last time...if they all croak again...no more otos...

Oh, you say that now, but you'll be back. Part of you will be frustrated with a fish you weren't able to keep healthy and part of you will be longing to succeed! I have that now with mollies. I have had TERRIBLE failure with them, so I am going to get a dedicated molly tank, give them everything they need. Then we'll see if I give up!

Anyway, ottos are really cool fish. I hope you have good success!
