I just got my ten gallon setup, its done cycling, and i added all my plants and such, but it just looks weird. I cant put my finger on it, but i dont know why. I think its the way stuff has been aranged (or lack there of). does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make the tank look better? Ive attatched some pic urls.

i think you may be looking for a natural look but the color plants you have in there are not quite it.

Its not like BRIGHT RED, its more of a natural maroon. I think its just too cluttered. Do you have any ideas of how to "organize" it more?

sometimes less is more. take some things out, move some things, maybe it's too busy looking. maybe try to blend the colors better.

make a little sketch of the tank from the top. I think it's too cluttered too, and lacking a couple tall plants for the back. Maybe ditch a couple of the small plants, leave some open space in the middle areas, and push that stump a little over to one side. try and go for a high-to-low effect with the plants, instead of seeing one height all the way across:thumb:

1) Blue gravel scattered in with the natural stuff. You know how I feel :)

2) Not sure what that yellow thing is in front of the heater

3) Slate should be stacked horizontally imo. Slanted slate looks hokey. If you want a rock there, then get a roundish, craggish rock

4) Too many colors perhaps. The eye is distracted.

Just my critique :)

1.) it was either that, or pure clown puke

2.) its supposed to be a fallen tree trunk. i needed a decoration.

3.) its just little tiny peices, about 2" across if that

4.).......

lol ^_^

I'd say just get rid of the slate and the yellow thingy. As xooloo said, it's a bit cluttered. Also, group the plants so that there is an opening to the right of the tree stump, with shorter plants bordering the opening. Negative space works wonders, and atm, the plant height across the tank is too uniform.

I kinda had to salvage some plants from my other two, but i just bought 7 new plants yesterday, so i can mix and match them. When i get back tommorow, ill rearange some more and post a pic to see what yall think.

If I were you I would ditch the gravel for either black or brown gravel, get a nice big peice of drift wood, also ditch all those colour full plants ans just get green ones, maybe even put in real plants if you want, also what makes a tank look extremly good it to put one of those fake rock background on the back..

Here's my totally uneventful 10 gallon that I just finished cycling yesterday after switching the gravel out.

Obviously nothing going for it yet. I just tossed some fish in there to keep it alive but I really need fish now that 9 are gone.
