View Full Version : Thinking about getting some bottom dwelling species?

So I have my 1 Blue Gaurami, 7 Mollies and one snail. The addition of the 4 more mollies went great. Got a teeny bit of an ammonia spike but I have been doing fewer but smaller water changes ( as opposed to a large water change once a week) and all is fine now. I was toying with the idea of adding a bottom dweller to the tank. Dont really want to go the pleco route. I was thinking of maybe Cories?

If I do cories it would have to be pygmy and I would need like, 5 right?

What other bottom dweller fish could I consider? Like Otos but I am so afraid I will instead end up with like, SAE or something I don't really want.

Thats what I read is that they are sensitive to water quality and the like.

Should I do 3 or 5 corys? I would like to find pygmy but don't know if Ill be able to.

pygmys are a more social species of cory. I would go for at least 8, but 10 would be better

I read that too, that pygmy needed more. I did just in the last week add the 4 mollies, so I don't want to stress the Bio filter too much. If I did 8 p. cories, that would bring my total fish up to 17 in a 20g. high.

Should I go for a smaller school or regular cories?

5 p. corys should be fine, Heather. But you're at the limit for your tank. I'd think about doing 2 water changes per week at around 50%.

Thanks. Of course the more fish the more water changes I need to do. I was only doing one water change a week b/c I only had 5 fish in there.

Anymore and I up my waterchange.
