View Full Version : My medium sized Central American Cichlids tank setup

Mabe its interesting for one or the other forum member, how my Meekis and Sajicas live.

Tank. 450 ltres (aprox. 110 gal)
1,80 x 0,50 x 0,50 metres

Lights: 3 HQL lamps a 80 Watt

Filtration: 1 Eheim 2250 (made for tanks up to 1200 litres) and a second no-name filter, made for tanks up to 400 litres

Heating: 1 Jaeger 300 Watt heater

Water parametres: HK 15, GH 19, PH round about 7

Sustrate, normal fine sand, some rounded river pebbles

Plants: Nymphaea lotus, Echinodorus bleheri, Javafern, Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia and some swimming plants (Alternathera aquatica) and of course some moss balls (?)

Other decoration: big roots

Inhabitants: Poecilia sphenops, Xiphophorus hellerii, Corydora paelatus, Corydora adolfoi, Thorichthys meeki, Th. ellioti, Cryptoheros sajica

Temperature: round about 23 degrees Celsius

Light: from 9 am ti 1 pm and then from 5 pm to 10:45 pm

NO CO2

The tank is open, so the plants can grow out of the water.

And here myself while setting up my tnk in August 2004.

My Dad helped me very much with all the electrical and other technical stuff. Without him, my tank wouldnt look that way.

Two times my Nymphaea lotus even blossomed (?)

SWEET SET UP! I am not going to be doing real plants though.
