I am expecting some ~1/2" red cherry shrimp I was planning on putting in my 5g QT but I also have several platy fry I would like to relocate there. Would they be safe with the cherry's? From everything I have read they are not aggressive but I wasn't sure if this was in regard to full size fish.

Cherry shrimp won't bother fry, they're more likely to be eaten themselves. If there isn't any cover for them when they molt they can easily be picked to pieces before the new exoskeleton hardens.

You will be fine. Should be no causalities on either side.
