i have known it was coming for the past few days but just now i looked at the female and noticed her spawning colors had gotten even more intense and i figured it was going to happen very soon. then, i noticed her chasing the male around. when i saw that i figured they must have actually spawned. just a couple hours ago he was the one chasing her around. having gone through this now once before, i know that once they spawn the female's disposition changes immediately.

now i see that she is guarding a pile of eggs!! she laid them right on top of a rock that is covered with christmas moss. it isnt where i was expecting them to spawn....i can see the eggs in a pile through the moss!

i need to remove the male soon but i think he will be ok for now. she has been chasing him some but he is mostly hiding at the other end of the tank. she does not like the corys getting too close either. when they are at the base of her rock she chases them off.

im assuming it is common behavior, but she has decided to move her eggs to another location. she did it during the day today. interestingly enough, she moved them to a spot that my L387 pleco normally hangs out in...i doubt he will now though, she chases anything away that comes near, or perhaps he will make a quick snack of them and it will be over. i decided to just leave the male in the tank because he is able to hide on the other end, away from her. the corys are all bunched up on the other end as well. i put the baby platy in the 10 gallon because i saw it get near the eggs and maybe eat a couple before getting chased off.

also, some of the eggs turned white, but she didnt move any of them and have now been eaten. were those eggs that did not get fertilized?

Congrats! Yes the white eggs are not fertilized they will fungus quickly destroying all the eggs, that is why she picks them out.

she moved all the eggs again last night, to a 3rd spot. what is cool is that i shined a flashlight on the eggs and they all appear to be squirming. i can see the little developing fry inside wriggling around like crazy

weird...i got home from work to find that she has moved all the eggs again, back to the 2nd spot...she has now moved all her eggs around 3 times!!

is this normal behavior or is she just feeling uncomfortable?
