Hi, I have a 29 gallon tank. No fish in it yet, just a few crabs. I have a small powerhead in it on 1 side and just set up my new canister filter (used). it's a Fulval 303. The spray bar on from the canister is on the opposite side of the power head, but it kicks out a lot of pressure. I am wondering if this is too much of a current? The tank is your standard rectangular style.

What kind of crabs do you have. Fiddlers and red claws need land and brackish water. They are not fully aquatic. As for current it depends partly for what fish you want. Some need calm waters others thrive on high current. What are you planning on keeping.

I just have blue legged hermit crabs and a turbo snail. I am going to keep it simple in the tank. Clown fish, a couple Damsels, maybe a cleaner shrimp.

Just think they normally live in the shallow reef with constant wave action and lot of turbulence.

As hursab mentioned, these creatures come from very high flow areas known as surge zones where the current is probably even higher than you are providing for it. I have a 46gal reef tank and I have 2 Koralia 3 powerheads in there, each putting out 850gph. Your flow is not really that high.

I ended up getting a Koralia 3 and got rid of the 1 since it did nothing. My clown goby could barley move in the current, I'm wondering if the 3 is too strong for a 29...

It's probably more than I would personally do, but not bad over all.

so it's ok you think. my fish seem to stay away from the side of the tank with the power head.

I have a 29g and so far I am only running a korali 2 and an aquaclear70...the fish and shrimp are certainly fine with this amount of flow, they swim right up to and around the powerhead all the time. I used to worry they would get sucked in, but they never seem to struggle to get away from it.
No advice to offer on what is too much flow, as I'm new to saltwater too, but I thought the information might help.

I dont think its too much. I had 2 koralia 2s and my return pump going in my 29 and i I still had dead spots. As long as your fish arent stressed and youR sand isnt always blowing around you should be ok.

If it helps, my 75 gallon with 20 gallon sump is right around 3800 gph flow between 4 koralia 2's, a koralia 1, and my return pump, and I still think i need to add more flow
