Does anybody use a Rena along with the smart heater? Do you like? Do you not? Why? Does it save from visual clutter on the back wall of the tank?
I'm going to set my 29 gallon up as a shellie tank sometime this spring. Knowing that I won't have plants and taller items to conceal any items on the back wall I'm looking to declutter. Was wondering who uses this particular setup and how well it works. Also, what size would you suggest for my 29g?

Never used the smart heaters, so can't comment on those. I'm currently running a XP2 on my 29g along with a HOB.

Why the XP2? The XP1 is rated for 45 gallons.
How do you keep the back of your shellie tank from looking cluttered with technical stuff?

Thought the XP1 is rated for 45 gallons, some people say the flow goes slower when there is too much gunk built up. But, overfiltration is always necessary. I just ordered my XP2 that's supposed to ceom tuesday for my 38G.

I noticed that it's rated at a pretty hefty 250gph though, compared to my eheim ecco 2236 which is supposedly sized for up to 80 gallons and is only rated at 185 gph. Hmmmmmmm decisions, decisions.

XP2 because the XP1 only has one media basket and I like to have room to add more than just the foam sponges. The flow isn't bad at all, I have the spray bar with the end popped off. The end points at the edge of the tank so the flow is diffused.
For my shellie tank, I have the heater hidden behind the holey rock. It's one of those stupid eclipse filter systems (hate them) so there is not as much filter clutter.

Ahhhhhhh Hadn't thought about the extra filter basket. Makes much more sense. Think I might scout around at XP2 prices. Thanks :11:

This is likely the best price you'll find: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
The $5.99 shipping has been extended until the end of January too.
