View Full Version : Calcium sand?

So, I'm thinking of setting up a shrimp tank and I'm wondering if calcium sand (for lizard type) can be used in an aquarium without dissolving or causing problems other than a raised ph and hardness... it'd probably be a sulawesi shrimp tank so neither of those are a problem and it'd be a good source of calcium for their shells if it works...

Any thoughts?

You might try a bit in a bowl of water and see how it does.

I have calcium sand in two of my tanks (Africans) and the mystery snails do great in it. Added some white to our cherry shrimp tank and they are liking it!

As long as it does not dissolve and sulawesi trend toward higher pH....
