Greetings, I'm Carl from the Windward side of Oahu here in Hawaii. My pond is about 360 gallons. Presently, there are only six fish and two lilies in the pond. Although this is an introduction, there is a bothersome issue. Of the six fish, one is a shubunkin, about 3 years old. Usually it's the most elusive one to net when the pond gets its thorough cleaning. At last cleaning, the shubunkin just swam into the net. At the time, I just though it lucky. But now, the unfortunate fish seems to be blind. It can detect that there is fresh floating food, but swims around erratically without being able to find it. It still appears adequatly fed. All the ofher fish are fine. Can anyone give me any ideas or guidance? Has anyone experienced such a problem? Can it be left alone as long as it otherwise seems healthy, or should the poor thing be sent to Davy Jones' Locker?

welcome to the site!

IMO, if the fish is blind and still very active and feeding fine, keep it. People can learn to adjust when they go blind, so I'm sure he can too. Is there some disease that can cause a fish to go blind? If so, you may want to quarentine the bugger, to avoid spreading to the other 5 fish.

Welcome to the forum, I agree with xoolooxunny. I would leave the fish alone.

fish cant really get blind. I remember a long time ago i was really, and i mean really stupid and i bought someones baby redbelly pirahna that lost both its eyes. It still fed and could detect its way around.

Welcome to AC. Fish have a great sense of smell, so the fish should be fine.
