Why aren't there better backgrounds available??? I don't even want anything fancy!!!

The black background won't work...won't be able to see the black moor.

The blue background just looks wrong with the black gravel:

This is what it looks like with no background:

...and this is the background I just came home from the LFS with. I don't like it either :(

...and please...ignore the messy basement...it needs tidying, painting and baseboards...all in good time...LOL>..

That's where I put my kids artwork.

I actually think the only problem with the background is the lack of plants, wood, rocks in the tank. The more tall plants you have in the tank, the better it will look and cover some of that blue up. I don't think it's the background more than the bareness of the tank.

Hmm, i cant think of any good ideas right now, i cant get past that messy basement!!! (j/k:ezpi_wink1: )

Wrapping paper comes in solid colors, why not try looking for a color you like and laminating it? you could also try a mirror.

Here's my blue background. Not beautiful but not ugly. Mine is foil so r-e-a-l-l-y blue, too.

Pretty!!! I like that! Are those real or fake plants?

I don't know how much 'stuff' to put in the goldies tank, since they seem to need more room to manuver in...but yes...the tank needs a bit more stuff...I'm collecting bottles at the moment...

I can't get past the messy basement either...but it's the kids' living space...not mine...although it still needs painting, baseboards and tidying!

I never thought of wrapping paper! I'll be keeping my eyes open...thanks!

Fake. Please!!!!!!! After reading all my posts about my problems with plants, you don't think I could have real ones like these. LOL

i dont use backgrounds.

That messy plant look can easily be achieved with live plants. My 20g looks like that

I really really REALLY like the idea of doing a moss wall for the background.
It seems like it would do a lot of good for the tank, the fish would like it, and it looks AMAZING!

There is a link for a really easy way to make one somewhere on this forum.

Rue: hmnnnn your tank's blue background really doesn't look bad at all... imagine some tall greens in the background and those mollies will be easily visible!

But I LOVE willisrad's idea of a moss background!! WOW!!!! I'm going hunting for that now!! But I am praying it's easy to maintain... the kinda luck I've had with plants so far...yech!!!

P.s: I found it: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] - but I think I'll pass - It looks like a lot of "taking care" and I seem to be killing cactii these days

you could make your own background.

A java moss background takes minimum work and lighting. However, it does take up quite a bit of room, so you may want to reconsider if your tank is not that wide.

I'm with Lady Hobbs--I like the planted-looking background, you just could use some more tall plants to help it blend in.

I buy cloth at WalMart and velcro it to the back of the tank. You can get it for 2 or 3 dollars a yard and the velcro is only 5-6 bucks.

RobbieG, great idea! My wife does some sewing, so I am dragged along to the fabric store sometimes. Some of the designs are great. This is yet another one of those "geez, why didn't I think of that" ideas!

I LOVE that idea! You could make a few and switch out the background whenever you get bored. Nice! When my son gets tired of painting backgrounds for me I'll have another unique solution to try. Thanks for the idea!thumbs2:

i tried that. I bought some thin foam sheets and used it as a background. It worked well

You know, my wife sews table cloths for different seasons and holidays by using different cloth. You could have a tank with interchangeable backgrounds based on season or holiday, too. Great idea, just great.

...you're all providing a plethora of good ideas! I'll leave the new background in place for now...

...but I'm gonna keep looking for something I prefer...
