Hi. I just set up a 20 gallon tank from a 10 gallon. I added all the 10 gallon water in and some of the gravel. I do not have the old filter. There are only 2 fish in there- a Platy and a Cherry Barb. The Platy had ich. I treated it and now it's almost all gone. BUUUT the water is a little cloudy and smelly. Why is this? There is a new filter in there, not the one from the 10. It is a Quiet Flow 20. It stinks. Is this because it's cycling? Will this hurt my fish?

you must run the old filter too in the new tank , that will help the cycle be complete faster. old tank water doesn't help too much. since your cycle is not done , maybe big wc change will save your fish and the smell.

The old filter got thrown away by accident

As mentioned, large, frequent water changes will drastically reduce any odor your tank is emitting.

You are probably smelling H2s or Hydrogen sulfide. Its the same stuff you smell when your swamp crawling after live food. Bacteria Produce tit as they break down waste. The gravel or filter must have been super dirty. I would do another 75% water change if I were you. You should be ready for another round of ICK in a week or so - cycts hatching, and don't put that net in any other tanks.:fish2: :fish2:
