View Full Version : Neon Tetra gone missing
Hi Just what the title says one of my Neon tetra's has gone, just cut back the plants and carried ot my weekly water change and we still can't find it. The filter has been checked and they can't get down the sides checked all the ornaments to see if he has died but nothing just gone.
Question is could he have been eaten by what I don't know there is nothing big enough in the tank with a mouth that could eat a tetra?
Cheers Cath

The other tetra will eat the fish, one bite at a time.

What other fish do you have in your tank? It's a possibility that he could have jumped out, check the area around your tank.

They find a way to hide.
Twilight zone, alternate fish dimension...
Have a neon cory that vanished for a few days in a 15g.
Gave up on it and "poof!", there it was :22:

Snails or Bacteria will clean a dead fish up given enough time. It could also be a jumper. Could have been syphoned out with old water. I love a good mystery. May have gone to the Amazon basin to visit relatives for xmas:18: :hmm3grin2orange: :fish:

:yeahthat:
Jumped, got sucked up during a water change or died and got eaten. It happens. Also check in your filter. Sometimes fish end up in there. I just found a baby kuhli loach in mine. Ok, so maybe not baby but about half grown.

It could have been many different things.
If you have a tetra that is slow moving and sick your other tetra and fish will pick at it.If it dies they will eat it as it begins to rot and soften up.
Its nature taking its course.Letting your fish eat dead fish is never good.
If you notice a dead fish remove it immediately,it may infect the other fish.
Thats how neon tetra disease is spread.

Hi All
Thanks for your replys but there is another one gone they are not ill my water is spot on my daughter is devastated I have just checked around the tank I check as I am doing water changes the tank is in the lounge I am sat next to it watching it all the time it is better entertainment than the tv I have only had one dead fish in all the time I have had the tank. I have Southern Platies, 2 Gouramis and penguin tetras and they have always lived happily together.
Water tests are Nitrites 0 Ammonia 0 nitrates 10 PH 7 I have air pump as well as a filter and everything looks great I even had to trim all the plants as they were overgrown and usually people have trouble growing their plants.
Tomorrow I will try and upload a photo and I also love mysteries but not when my tank is the centre of the mystery lol
Thanks Cath
