Hi i was wondering what an ideal cory cat breeding tank is like (Tank size, temp, substrate, decorations, etc) and what to feed them to get them to breed.
As of now i have 6 of them (all same kind, but not sure which one.. Does it matter?) in a bare bottom 10 gallon tank with no decor just a heater, a filter, and an airstone. Have not fed them yet as they are brand new lol. Do you think they will spawn in this set up? If not, tell me what i need to change please. Also, will they spawn with other kinds of cory cats in the same tank? I have 2 others that i was told were a breeding pair that i would love to add and try my luck. What about bushy nose plecos? I would love to try to breed them too. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I really wanna make this work. Thanks. :ssmile:
P.S.- Please ID these cory cats for me. Here are some pics:

There are several problems with this post but I'll try to be neutral for this post.

You absolutely must research your fish. To try to breed fish means you must know all of the parameters that are needed to have said fish breed. This part of the equation is your responsibility but of course we will be here to help as needed.

The corys you have appear to be skunk corys but I could be mistaken. If so I am sure one of our more knowledgeable members will correct me.

Hot to trot, wow I remember that, I think. I would offer my best advice and say slow down, ask all the questions, read lots more then go for it and goodluck.

Ok. I was told that they would have to get a bit bigger before they breed anyway. Im not expecting them to spawn right away. But while im waiting i would like to know what to change please.

I thought i might add that this is the tank i want to raise the fry in for a little while after they are born (I would like better to remove the parents after spawning than to move the eggs, to prevent damaging them or anything). This is why there is a bare bottom. The HOB filter will be replaced with a sponge filter (which is getting established in 135 gallon at the moment) once the eggs have been laid. I guess what i really wanted to know is if you NEED plants and substrate to have them breed (or if it just helps to have it) and if you could breed them in tanks with other kinds of cory cats. I would preferably like to hear from people who have successfully spawned cory cats so i can ask them what their set up is like. Thanks again.

Is the tank cycled?

You want substrate for corys imo. They will be much happier with a substrate that they can dig into.

They look more like Corydoras rabauti(rust cory, iridescent cory) to me but Im not 100% positive. Looks like they are halfmoon rust cory

The tank itself no, but i took the HOB filter straight off my 135. It is "rated" for a 50 gallon tank, so i figured it should handle the ammonia and nitrite just fine. Was I correct?

As long as the 135 has fish in and you moved it the day that you added the fish thats fine, checking parameters is a good idea though.

Yes it does and i put the filter on just before i put the fish in actually. thumbs2:
Thanks for answering my question about the substrate. As far as i know, they like to lay their eggs on plants with big, broad leaves, so im going to move my fake amazon swordplant in there too.

I also think they look like Corydoras Rabauti and there are so many articles on the net on how to breed Cory Cats, probably is best if you read through as many as you can, there is no rush....here are just a few which might start you off in the right direction.
