I got an opaline gourami about a week ago and he keeps making little bubbles on the water's surface but they dont stick to anything since there are no plants or anything floating at the top and I know that they are bubblenest makers when mating but since I only have one and its a male can it still make a bubble nest? or is it maybe sick?

Only males make the bubblenests, and they do so even if there are no females in the tank as a way of showing off. He just wants some female companionship ;)

should I float some plastic plants or something for him to make the nest?

Unless you are getting a female to breed them, I wouldn't bother. As long as there is some shelter from light in the tank, that's all gouramis need.

I wasn't aware that gourami's build bubble nest. I had golds, moonlights, blues plus dwarfs and never had one building bubble anythings. :)

Guess they weren't horny ;)
My gourami had a field day one day tearing up my dwarf hairgrass to make a nice mound of crud in one corner, lol

lol so if I planted live plants in my tank they are likely to be torn up by my gourami or is it only certain kind of plants?
