We will be goign ot of town for about a week here next month. I have had Tropical community tanks that do fine on thier own using one of those feeder blocks, but what do I do for my Cichlid tank?? Will they also eat off of a feeder block??

i dont bother with feeder blocks. To me, theyre more of a mess and ammonia producer than anything. fish can go for a month without food, so dont bother feeding. the Feeding also means more ammonia, and the feeder blocks often crumble and rot
I used one a long time ago on my 20g long for a week, a gel one. When i came back, 5pmm of ammonia and rotted food allover. I had to give all the fish to the lfs since the conditions were so poor.

Feed them very well before you leave and do a large water change.

yep. about 5 hours before you leave, do a 50% water change. i say about five hours before since in the time after the water change it gives you a chance that nothings going wrong
