Ideas for a 75 Gallon?

i'd really love any of the shovelnoses, but the red tails are just cool. But it seems they'll definetly get too big. Open to any ideas.

whats the average size on those? they look cool, and pim cats always do good for me. i had the little ones in a tank before. They ended up dying of old age at about 8 years.

Sorbium lima "only" grows to about 15", you could fit one of those in a 75. They aren't an active fish, ambush predator, prefer to hang around looking like a log until something comes close enough to pounce on.

yea, just let me look at shipping. But yea, its gonna be predatory so.. no schooling fish, unless they're dinner for the week.

but it may have an arowana in the tank, but the cat will have plenty of caves and rock cover. thay'd b added at the same time to avoid size difference as much as possible, and that way they'll grow up used to each other.

No way a 75 is large enough for an arowana, they grow longer than 18" in a short time.

^^ Yup. No aro species can fit in a 75 permanently unless you've discovered a new dwarf species. Now, are you interested in a bottom dweller only or are you looking for a full stocking of the 75?

the aro would go to a 125 eventually. just have the 75 in my room, so itd of course be an amazing show piece right? but after that, a tank with the catfish still in it would be in order so i guess if u have any ideas on a tank stocking, shoot away. but the catfish would stay.

125 is still too small. And as for the catfish, there are raphael cats, possibly a lima shovelnose, pictus, upside down cats, synodontis eupterus, and a few other species.

I have aways wanted 75 gallon aquarium for 4-5 discus and a big school of cardinal tetras. Maybe a bushy nose pleco and or some cory cats!
So this is what I would do:
4-5 Discus
A Big school of cardinal tetras
1 Bushy Nose Pleco
6 Cory Cats

The discus all depends on how long you have been keeping fish and how much you know about them. If you don't think discus maybe you could replace them with some angel fish.

What do you think?

had community for years. Going for a different direction on this one. Me and my sis did discus awhile back and we never could get it to settle. We lost 3 fish and called it quits. Its was expensive, and just not fair to the fish because we never had enough time for them. They were herss, but I ended up doing most of the work on them, and then I'd leave them to her, and they'd be code red when I checked again. and shes the older one.pshh. guess thats another point ofr "if u want it done right, do it yourself" people out there. o well. So yea goin another direction on this tank. but the angels was a good idea. And 125 isnt enough for a jardini? i thought itd b just right.

Another thing I like is an aquarium with just african cichlids! They are really colorfull and I think a 75 gallon would be a good size for some african cichlids. How does that sound??

ALready got thos too! I know, hard to please right. Yea we have a 55 with Malawi's. Orange Zebra, Yellow labs, peacocks (not Malawis I know) and Dempseys (not Malawi either but who cares). The Orange Zebras are breeding and have had 2 babies so far. We don't have a seperate breeder tank, so only 2 have survived so far, but theo ones about an inch already.

Or if you were willing to do cold water you could get some gold fish....

yea sharks are pretty cool, but im thinking something bigger, like 1 or 2 big fish. something and a catfish, u no? still hard to please :)

A single larger cichlid with an Asian upside-down catfish or a larger Synodontis species would work. The catfish are pretty adaptable to different water conditions, and should be able to stand up to most cichlids suitable for a 75. Butti's or Oscars wouldn't be wise, but a blue JD would make a nice display fish.

A 75 is a great tank for an oscar and a few silver dollars.thumbs2:
Maybe a pleco or cat for the bottom.

Oscars are pretty awesome, I do want something that'll eat live foods. It wouldn't bother the catfish tho?

That depends on the individual cichlid, as well as available cover for the catfish.
