I have a 55g planted community tank. The tank is stocked with a bunch of tetras (cardinals, rummy nose, etc), cory cats, plecos (L200, bristle nose, etc), porthole cat, ottos, SAE... Can I house a hoplo cat in this tank? I know the hoplos get bigger - will they uproot plants, eat tetras, etc?

If you think it will eat your tetra why consider it?

Good for a community tank, won't tear up the plants but they feed "energetically".
One thought: I had heard these were a schooling cat or do better with >1 in the tank.

Sounds like you realy need another tank for Christmas;this one seems pretty well stocked already.

I have 7 (4XL and 3 small ones) hoplos in my 300 liter tank with bunch of varios fish including small ones without any problem.
Agreed, they like to be in groups and wont eat any fish. Its my favorite catfish!

Thank you for the replies. I have 4 different tanks that the hoplo may end up calling home, but I wanted to hear about experiences keeping this fish, as I have not kept it before.
It sounds like it will do well with the porthole and 8 cories that are in the tank.
Well I don't keep hoplos but heres a link[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
