Just showing off my pretty girl (I think she's a girl). She's getting a 150 gallon tank for Christmas!

Pretty fish. I'm not a huge fan of pink but, I'd let that go for this pretty lady:hmm3grin2orange:

Nice fish! Too bad they tattooed her though!
Have you had her long? She looks to be similar in size to mine. Mine loves grapes and chopped carrots...you may want to try them with yours!

Thanks all. She's just about 14" long right now. I've had her about 6 months and she's grown over 2".
Lucky girl has a grapevine in the back yard so she gets grapes all year long. She loves lettuce and spinach too. As a special treat, she gets cocktail shrimp... she'll suck down a dozen at a time. Besides a good carnivore pellet, she gets bagged veggies from the grocery store as her regular diet. I think her absolute favorite food is green beans... she'll take them from my fingers. Did I mention she was spoiled rotten?
She's definitely a meanie. She loves to attack at anyone walking by, and she'll do battle if you wiggle your fingers at her. She tolerates the big 12" long plec she shares her tank with, but she'll nip at him if she's moody. So far the plec shows no damage what-so-ever so I'm comfortable keeping them together. I may at some point try to introduce another large fish, but it's up to her.
I'd love to see any of your all pictures of other adult white gouramis like mine. I'm totally curious what she's going to end up looking like :-)

She is a beautiful fish. Its a shame about the dying
Is it a standard 150 that you are looking at?

I did some good looking around for the right tank at the right price... Her new tank (which she'll move into in 2-4 weeks, depending on the cycling) is 24" front to back, 60" long, and 30" deep (give or take). I got the tank, stand, sump, heaters, lights, etc for a bargain on craigslist. That ought to hold her for another year or two until I get the dream tank set up. The dream tank is a combination pet center that will house a 4'x6' aquarium above a giant dog crate for my Saint Bernard and Mastiff (I guess I have a thing for big pets). I'm actually building it into an interesting corner of my house, so the tank can be seen from 3 different rooms. Bit of a fantasy, but I dream big!

Very cool. I was going to say something to the effect of "A standard 150 is not gonna be wide enough even for this moment blah blah" but you made me eat those words. Bravo:ssmile:
Just an FYI: Im sure you mean 24" is the Depth, 30" is the Height and 60" is the Length. For aquariums we use L D H instead of L W H, so depth is actually the front to back, not top to bottom. Dont ask me why and yes I know its confusing :hmm3grin2orange:

Sounds like she'll have an awesome life with you! :22: Most people cannot properly house such a monster fish.
I agree! Sounds like you're giving her a perfect home.thumbs2:
The 'dots' are tattoos?
I don't understand why anyone would tattoo a fish that large - very few people would be able to house one...so doesn't that decrease the potential market for tattooed fish (regardless of whether the practice is ethical or not).

She's a truly beautiful girl. I often have dreams of breeding a pair of Giants, but that's going to take quite a bit of room and more than a few years to even consider!
And indeed. She does appear to be a she. Good call on the sexing. =]
As for seeing our pictures of our Giants, I think there may only be one other Giant owner on the site, and I cannot recall their name at the moment! (Correct me, if wrong, though, fellow ACers! =P)

Pinksaphire - Here is my 14-15 inch GG. He's not white, but he's a Giant Gourami nonetheless. His diet is almost identical to yours and is currently housed in a 180. They are a very personable fish and mine is just now starting to get over that "meanie" phase they go through. he used to try picking on everyone in the tank until he bumped heads with the Arowana. She humbled him in a quick second!
It sounds like you are doing an excellent job with yours and I look forward to more pics has she grows! Hope you like mine!
