I would say that tank is too small for rummynose. They need to school obviously, and they are very active, so I think a bigger tank is really required to keep them. 5 less active fish like cardinal tetras could work though.

Cherry shrimp look better. The cardinals (or any other fish in the tank pretty much) will eat the offspring, but whatever. Make sure to cover the intakes of the filter with mesh.

Either plant package will work fine. The low light will grow better.

like chrona said, cardinals are best.

With cardinals, it is recommended you drip acclimate them like saltwater fish since theyre a bit sensitive to massive PH/ chemistry changes

Thanks for the advice! No neons or cardinal tetras for me...been there done that, lost that, done it again, lost more, lol. I have succesfully kept them alive for quite a period, but they just don't do it for me...I have no interest in those two fishies anymore.

What about a pair of killifish and a couple of dwarf corys?

killis can be aggressive, but you can try. 3 corys are good too. 3's the minimum because they like to shoal

i think a shrimp tank would look ace, a range of species would be better suited then any fish

bettaboy691 - I have always wanted a shrimp only tank...but with a nano cube, I don't know, I feel it's my duty to do something more with it, you know, lol?

Someone mentioned to me a pair of dwarf puffers. I know they will eat the shrimp, but other than that I don't know much - going to research them now...anyone have any thoughts on these guys?

I have been researching them and I think a pair of them would be awesome!!

I know they are nippers...I read 2-3 gallons per dp - so the 6 gallone would hold 2 nicely. Do you think 3 dwarf corys would be ok with them if I added a couple of caves for them to hide in?

Edit:
After doing a bit of research I would say no to the cories. Ottos seem to do good with them, but my history with ottos is not good. I am thinking about a rubberlip pleco now.

Thoughts?

What's wrong with a shrimp cube? Keep it simple and it would work very well.

nothing is wrong with it, I just want to do something more with the tank.

Hmm... it's just a bit too small for a nice number of the smaller corys. Cardinals could work.

i would only add 1 dwarf puffer, with 2, things may become heated and aggressive might break out. saying that, buying 2 could work, and you can always return one. make sure the tanks well planted with lots of caves. no shrimps, loke you said, and probally not cories either, ottos sometimes work, sometimes dont. i have 3 in a 15 gallon, alone with an apple snail, ottos and 1 ghost shrimp. i wouldnt recomend this. its probally fine as theres lots of space and plenty of plants and caves. the ottos keep out of the way, the snail is fully grown, and bigger than the dwarf puffers. the puffer will enjoy common snails though. and the shrimp accidently managed to get in the tank, i think i was transfering a plant or bogwood, and he came alone, i noticed him a little later, and hes living fine now.i keep expecting him to be eaten, but every day when i check, hes still there. saying all that, i have 1 dwarf puffer in a 5 gallon, aggressive bugger, attackws snails, ottos and my hand, lol. he was with the others in the 15g, but was aggressive so i removed him.
so what im trying to say, is every dwarf puffer has its own personality. dont crown them into one tank, give them space, plants and caves and often it will work out.

Thanks for all that info thumbs2: I read as a general rule of thumb that 2-3 gallons per puffer which is why I am going to try for two. I totally understand what you mean about it depends on the specific puffer - I love gouramis and the aggression factor towards fellow gouramis differs with each one. I'll definitly keep an eye on them. What type of substrate suits them best? thanks.
