So...went to feed my apple snails tonight, as usual, and was worried that they hadn't touched the lettuce at all (I feed them 4-5 pieces every 3 days). At this point I noticed the tank smelled like someone just cut a huge one, and the lettuce was in fact cabbage. Guess the last time I fed them I was a little more tired than I thought...
Drained it out, rinsed it 3 times, still smells like a fart. Not as bad, but not the whole bathroom smells like one too.
yay cabbage fart tanks.
on the bright side I now know that apple snails will not touch cabbage.

lol Thats a noticable odor!
Try some fresh carbon in the filter. It should help to clear the smell out of the tank.24hrs is my limit for leaving veggies in my tank.

So, with the fish smell, are we talking full-on kimchi here? haha!

I think it may be worse than a fish smell!

Oh come now! Kim-chi is delicious!
The ONLY way cabage should be eaten is with butter and vinigar.... have you tried feeding them cabage that way?
JUST A JOKE... DO NOT DO THAT.... LOL

I'd give this thread a 5 star rating simply because you didn't know the difference from cabbage and lettuce. LOL
No vegs should stay in the tank more than one day.

The thought of the combo of smells of cabbage and vinegar has to be the most unattractive concept that I will hear today lol, does not sound like a Cali dish, sounds more like something my great grandpa would make to serve on the side owith his squirrel and dumplings :hmm3grin2orange:

For a while I would take it out after a day and replace it, but I got tired of having to fight them for it (baseball sized apple snails can get a pretty good grip on things, and do not like letting go of food). Plus it usually takes them about a day and a half, two days tops to finish it all off.
Since it is only them in the tank and they get 100% water changes and the substrate rinsed weekly I am not too concerned about it.
Glad someone got a laugh out of it, I just got an earful from the misses.
