Hey i got yet another new addition on Saturday night. A 7 to 8 inch palmas bichir. But i have been unsuccessful in getting him to eat in the past 3 nights. This may be because the guy who i bought him from dropped him on the ground while trying to get him in the bag, but im not sure. He looks ok otherwise, just not eating. Any suggestions? Here are some pics:

Probably just stressed. Just give him some time and keep trying. He looks nice and fat, so he definitely knows how to eat! :ssmile:

What are you feeding them? I have 2 Senegal Bichirs and they love sinking pellets and for live food they will catch ghost shrimp. When I first got them they seemed to eat more ferociously than they do now. If you keep them with other fish you might have to spot feed them because there not the fastest. I have to put pellets under caves in my tank because the swordtails will steal them before the bichirs can eat.

That is a nice fish! I agree with giving it more time. Some fish take longer to get settled.

He'll come around....I wouldn't worry. Most gars and Bichirs are very efficient predators and can go a very long time between meals (in comparison to other fishes).

That bicher could easily go several weeks to a month w/out eating before you need to worry about it starving to death. Try some live earthworms if all else fails.

He is currently in quarantine because of some questionable patches on his face. Im trying to discern if it is just a scrape from before or something else. So he will probably stay there for a week or so, but then he will also go in my 135.

Do you guys think i am overstocking my tank? I dont mind keeping up with the water changes (I do them once a week about 40% of the water) and i am definitely going to upgrade in the future. Please let me know what you think.

You might want to have a few caves in there. I have three caves and two bichirs and still they fight over them. They are very territorial over hiding places.
