The pleco wants to eat the slime off the turtle.
Many plecos will latch onto flat sided fish to eat the slime as well.
You didn't ask!lol

I got 2 dinosaur bichirs and was warned that the algae eaters would try to eat there slime and give them big wounds. Of course I found that out after I bought them. I have caves big enough for them and yet to small for the plecos so hopefully they'll be okay, until they reach 12'' of course. Yes the plecos try to latch onto the turtles shell most of the time, the turtle will occasionally bite a plecos head but it never seems to bother them and even on the weakest parts of their fins there is never a pice missing or any wounds. There just to tough. I thought that maybe they were tired of seeing the inside of the turtles mouth and was getting some revenge lol. I didn't get it all but the pleco chased the turtle for a while and kept trying to latch on his head, it was hilarious to watch the clumsy turtle running from something he so easily harassed before
