We'd been thinking of this and planning for it for awhile now. I am not sure my client calandar will let me bet here to accept delivery on Friday (I don't normally keep office hours on Friday, but may this week). However, H can be here if I can't be.
I just ordered three "Kirin Parrot Bonsai Flowerhorn" fish. They'll be coming to us in Virginia via overnight delivery from California. I'm excited!!!
Here's the video from the seller... I wanted to save the picture but once the auction closed, it wouldn't let me look / save it at that point. I'll get some pics / videos of my own once they're here and settled.
Thanks to the folks here who helped me learn more about these kinds of fish and reassure me that overnight shipping this time of year (holidays) shouldn't be an issue!

I was in Grand Rapids yesterday so stopped to look for them in a couple fish stores there. They hadn't even heard of them. Petco had a couple nice regular parrots that I wanted bad but they were $25 each and I just paid $12 for the new ones I have so didn't feel like paying double the price. If Christmas wasn't so near, I would have gotten them.
They only had two and in divided tanks. I asked the guy why they weren't together and he said they were fighting too much. Of course the tanks were only 20 gallon tanks so that could have been the reason.

Hobbs --
I also wouldn't want to pay 2x what I just had for the BP's. While I know it's not popular to admit here, I can admit we actually got our BP's from Walmart. Didn't expect to see or get them there, but that's how it happened.
The one near us had gotten rid of all their tanks, only to replace them w/ new ones. We thought they were going to stop selling fish but they just upgraded the tanks. The BPs were only $8 and we got three. Figured someone would buy them and chances were we'd take just as good if not better better care of them than someone else. We weren't fish shopping but killing time while the oil was changed in my SUV. We're tickled with our $8 BP's. They are just as colorful now as any of them in Petco / Petsmart, though they were pale at first. I'd do it again, without hesitation. They all lived and are doing beautifully.
The Kirins only cost $25/each (same as regular BP's here at Petco / PetSmart) but the shipping is as much just about as them combined. I didn't see another way to get them as I've never seen them in the stores around here and just really think they will be fun fish to have around.

Jill, what tank and tank mates are going to be with them?
Nice KBPS though.

They will be going in with my existing BP's. I had a thread some time ago:

and the consensus was that they should be compatible. This is also what the seller (good reputation) has told me.
I feel good about the choice (which I have explored well) and am looking forward to getting them on Friday [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
Jill
How many BPs is that in a 55gal? 4? Thats a lot, and could cause problems in the future.

They're very social fish and like to be in groups. (I have been telling and telling my middle sized parrot that for several days now but I don't think he believes me!)
Five or six should be fine in a 55 gallon.
Yeah, but Its the bioload on the tank. But hey, I was just throwing that out there.

Hobbs, I'm with you and that's what we will have in our tank.
Red, thanks for the concern but you can rest assured I am careful with any choice that effects our animals and that includes the fish. This is something I've been planning and researching for awhile. Not an impulse choice or one I took lightly.

Not big poopies, at all. Nothing like goldfish and I seldom even see mine "going". They really aren't very big eaters, eithers.
I saw one at petsmart yesterday that had a light coloration of a kiron. It was pretty cool, could I add one to a 40gal?
EDIT: Sorry for the bad hijack there jill.

Depends on what else is in the tank. They get along great with all community fish.

Red, our tanks are all well filtered and I am devoted to taking care of the fish and all our animals properly.
Hobbs is correct in that these are not very "dirty" fish.
Sooooooo... now maybe let's get back to the "Yay, neat new fish" vibe thumbs2:

For sure I should have mentioned a lot of filteration would be needed for that many fish, as well. I happen to have a lot of it so feel OK and I also have other tanks to move fish into if I feel I have too many in one tank. Just randomly tossing out 5 or 6 should have followed with more information and considering others tanks besides my own.
I filter with a Fluval305 and an AC110.
The tank is also planted and no other fish will be with them. (Loaches will be moved out, too.)

you are planning on adding three "deep bodied" cichlids to a 55g tank that already has three "deep bodied" cichlids and tiger barbs. plus you are planning to add more barbs, (from another thread). i agree with red, your tank will be overstocked, but hey it's not my tank, sending some yay new fish vibes your way.:19:

You're right, it's not your tank mommy1.
We have quite a lot of tanks and these are still small fish. If the tiger barbs being included in my tank become too much for my tank, I have a plan which would involve moving some fish.
I didn't decide to make it three (3) Kirins for sure until last night when I placed my order for the fish. Hence, my pondering about adding additional Tiger Barbs a couple days ago.
There's also the fact that if I want to get another big tank, I can. If I want to add more filters, I can. Since I guess the tone of the thread illustrates it takes a blunt reponse -- in terms of time, space and resources, there is plenty to do anything and everything I could possibly want in terms of fishkeeping.
It's one thing when someone asks for advice or doesn't have a clue about what's going on to try and help with unsolicited advice. However, I actually do know as much as needs to be known to make the fish decision and purchase I just made.

oh Jill, simmer down. I didn't give you any advice. I just made an observation and agreed with Red.
Since you are so fond of telling us how much disposable income you have, instead of trying to cram 6 good sized fish into a 55g, why don't you just get a bigger tank, say a 75g with adequate filtration, maybe a Rena XP3.
There, now I have given you some advice.

LOL!!! Love it! How many times have we heard Jill use the phrase 'money is no object'?
You might want to go ahead and close this thread Lady Hobbs...I bet it's about to get ugly.:14:

You know, "whatever." I'm not the one who looks bad in this discussion. I just wanted to share what I felt was exciting news with fellow fish enthusiasts.

You can count on pictures but my photo skills... well, you'll at least be able to hopefully tell they're cute fish based on what I can capture in pictures [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Parrots are cute guys. Hub and I have looked at them at the pet store. Don't have the resources now for them, but I look forward to enjoying yours vicariously. :19:
