I woke up this morning, and turned my tank lights on.. then nearly spat out my coffee when I saw a dead frog on the bottom of my tank. A DEAD FROG.
It was about 4 inches long and all contorted in kind of a flying superman pose. The weirdest part, is that Ive never seen one like it before..and I've seen a lot of frogs. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo.. but in the moment I just reacted. I netted it out, then ran outside and catapulted it across the street. Guess I kinda panicked a bit.
So now, I'm sitting here at work, paranoid. I wasn't able to do a water change, but my parameters were good. What I am worried about, is if it secreted some sort of toxin into the water. That happened about a couple weeks ago when a praying mantis got in my tank and all my neon tetras died.
I just wanna get home now and do a water change. Stupid frog.

A[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] Man sorry for your loss. Hopefully everything will be okay, until you get home to do a water change. Good luck to you.

Lol.. I don't have any frogs... and apart from my lone neon tetra, there isn't anything in there small enough for it to eat, and the neon was fine. I don't even know how it got in there in the first place... and even how it couldn't get back out.

Any idea what kind it was?

Not a clue. Some kind of tree frog i'd reckon. Thank goodness we dont have any poison arrow frogs here. I probably would have woken up to a tank full of dead fish.

I was wondering about that! A poison frog could be dangerous.
I hope the fish are alright today.I can't see why not unless you have another frog in there when you get home!
What other fish are in the tank with the neon?

Its a 70 gallon tank. I have a school of 14 zebra danios, a school of 8 cories, 8 serpae tetras, and 4 BN cats.

I don't think they picked at it to death!:hmm3grin2orange:
Maybe the clean water killed it! I would hate to think it was much else.
Is there anyway someone might have slipped it in there as a bad joke.
I have had room mates capable of such a stunt.

Yeah, me either. Unless the super neon has a vendetta against intruders for wiping out his clan. If it was the clean water that did it, I need to start drinking bottled water. lol.
Nobody has access to my house, since I took my keys back from my sister. So, unless there's some sort of covert terrorist ninja organization that goes around tossing frogs in random aquaria, I'm ruling out foul play. :hmm3grin2orange:
I dont know how long it was in there. I always look at my fish before I go to bed so the longest would be around 6 hours, but probably not that long.

Sounds like you need a alarm system on your tank for intruders.

I'm guessing its still nice and warm there,as i look out my window and see a couple of feet of snow and its a bloody -16C outside:scry: .
Did you leave a door open for it hop into? A window?
How high is the tank off the floor?
Hmmmmmmmmmm
I'm putting my money on the covert terrorist ninja organization that goes around tossing frogs in random aquaria!:hmm3grin2orange:

Thats the thing.. none of the windows were open! The tank is pretty high, as I like it to be at eye level. Frogs here can really jump though.. really really jump.

Tree frogs can climb.
Aren't they the ones with sticky feet?
That would have been quite the jump!:19:

I hope the fish are okay!
Honestly, when I read that, the first thing I thought was how dead frog (and praying mantis) removal are jobs for a husband... but I'm guessing you didn't have one to call [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
Really hoping all is well with the fish and you're going to need to put that tank on lockdown at night to keep the critters out!
