our 45 gal community was recently decimated by ick and a subsequent secondary infection, so we after treating it we needed to restock. last night wife comes home (late) and asks if i have been good. of course i say yes and she hands me a (leaking) walmart bag with a female betta in obligatory little bowl, and a large fish bag with the following: 2 giant danios, 2 black mollies, 2 mickey mouse platies, 2 glass tetras (she calls them red eys), and a long finned black skirt tetra. she said, as soon as she handed me the bag that i could pick what i like and take the rest back. i imediately inform her we will prolly do that, cause all of those fish (except maybe the female betta) are schooling fish and would be happier and look prettier in nice little schools.
all the fish look good, but none of these fish were ones that i had planned on buying, and i have a hard time changing plans (some call that anal). but i was looking and thinking, in our tank with black gravel, and black back ground, you cant even see the black fish unless you really look hard. so i tell her that we should plan on taking the those back to the store in the next couple of days. boy that was a mistake. i get the classic: "I will just let you handle it from now on."
after we calm down and she gets home, she asks me if i still have the bag. nope sure dont. turns out she lost the receipt and we tossed the bag, so we maybe stuck with this motely assortment for now.

That's unfortunate but, at least her heart was in the right place. The thought of buying fish from Walmart makes my skin crawl but, maybe the Walmart in your area actually takes care of their fish.

At any rate, best of luck with your "motley crue" :22:

Get some pool sand and sprinkle it on the black gravel. It will lighten up the look and you will see your fish better.

I guess she was trying to surprise you or something.
Lol Get an Oscar tank.
