I think the core meaning to both quotes has a similar basis. Both to me anyway have the underlying meaning of unless you step up for yourself no-one else will. In mommy's quote for instance it speaks of somebody being to ignorant to feast on the fruits of life instead they choose to starve. And in mine it speaks of people who find it easier to play the role of poor pitiful them than to stand up and fight for themselves :22:
What was your take on them, as to why you feel they contrast?

See, when I read the first quote, I think it advocates standing up for yourself.
When I read the second one, I think it reflects on people being at the mercy of circumstance.
It's neat how the same quotes can mean very different things depending on who is reading or hearing the quotes.

my quote is from a movie called "auntie mame".
she lived each day to its fullest. everyday was a new adventure filled with joy. even through the great depression she found love, happiness and joy in each day. she meant that she didn't understand why some people chose to live their lives dwelling in their regrets and sorrows (a poor me attitude) rather than living life up to its fullest.

i'm with you in everything but the material rewards, i've never really been a material kinda girl.
and as for standing up for myself, i have no problem with that either when it is something i deem important. like personal safety or the safety of my children, but on an internet forum...eh, i'm not so concerned.

Agreed, many people can have many different takes on the same simple statement...which I also find interesting as I feel that those perceptions can be somewhat of a lack of better term fruedian slip of the mindset of that person.

Well, I've been lucky in that in my life so far, hard work has paid off in all the departments noted.
I understand what you're saying about not sweating things online and also figure that means it doesn't rattle you when someone else does stand up for herself online.
For me, I've been using the internet since the 90's (as I'm sure many of you have). I just hold myself out as myself. Everyone here who wants to click could know my full name, where I live, my phone number, everything just about. I've handled it that way for over a decade. Since I don't say or do anything online I wouldn't say or do face to face, it's no issue... Plus, I have a great alarm system, two big dogs, and a license to carry.
The only other forum I'm a part of is about horses and there are people there from all over the world. I've "been there" since before 2002. The members know my name and details and I know theirs. We see each other at shows, at local and national club meetings, we buy and sell horses with each other, send Christmas cards, gifts, ETC.
I get that the AC isn't quite the same community, however, since I am me, here and in the real world, I stand up for myself and for that reason, the quotes from Jenn and yourself caught my particular interest.

Actually read each word, it means that every bad occurence yeilds something good like a lesson, or you were strengthened. When my grandpa died I gained a lot of everlasting strenght and faith, which both are very important to me. But every good thing like love has no lasting bad things.
