How tall and narrow could you, hypothetically, have for a tank? Like 48" tall with 12" square sides? or 24" w and 12"d? 24" square maybe? Given the correct filtration/circulation set up that is?
Would lighting be an issue?
I'm just daydreaming on a different tank and thinking about where it might go and what it might look like!

Here's a chart giving the common sizes.

Lighting would seem to only be an issue if you have live plants.

in tall tanks, there is little oxygen circulation, meaning you would need a air pump

Tall tanks are also generally harder to fully stock as most fish swim side to side, not up and down so they have less footprint to utilize

So we'd be best off with long and narrow rather than tall. Got it.

fast zippy fish like danios like long tanks, and for tall tanks only angel fish really work

While tall tanks are less sutible for alot of fish, they can work in homes where there isn't enouh space for a longer tank.

If you are going live plants, wider tanks like a 75g or a 40g breeder are better because they create a sense of depth. Not sure if you are, but from the lighting question it sounded like it.

Nah, not planning, just a visual art person trying to imagine what a "different" kind of tank might look like.

if you want visuals, get a 20-55g tall tank with 1-2 angles, and really tall fake plants, and one rock on the bottom. Tall tanks can look extremely cool with the right set-up
The fish highway system at [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] is cool too
