Im not sure what it is. Right now my 75 gallon tank is on day 10 of the fishless cycle. I bought the tank from a guy who had two Oscars in it. (not sure of the sexes) When I got the tank I took all the substrate out and cleaned it out and added some sand a rocks. I just saw this floating today it was not in there before. Any ideas? Wanted to ask here before just throwing it out.

Its large about the size of a quarter round wise. The tank was 100% empty so its not food left over from the old owner.

Since it was left in by the old owner, it might really BE a hazelnut! I would pitch it out, whatever it is (Don't eat it LOL!) http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/smileys-91853/aiw/ok.gif

PS it's probably just some sort of debris that got into the substrate you added. I have found wood chips in mine and straw.

The rocks I added did have some wood in them, maybe they joined together somehow. I wasnt sure if they were eggs of some sort thats why I come to you guys first. You all are so helpful and kind.

I bet that's what it is (something from the gravel). Good job asking what it could be.

Have you added fish yet?

If you haven't, you may want to do a large PWC. It might be a long shot, but I know some nuts and woods are toxic to horses (simply using some types as stall bedding can founder a horse). Black walnut is one toxic wood... I know that's not a black walnut, but if the tank is currently fishless, I'd go on and take it out and do a large or complete water change.

It sure does look some kinda of nut, maybe an acorn.

However it could just be a piece of wood since u said there may be some, new wood always grows fuzz like that. Throwing it out was the safe move, gj
