I got a breeding pair of blue acaras (Aequidens pulcher) at my LFS and they dont have the appearnce of a normal blue acara, they are REALLY neon and are actually blue. I looked up blue acaras and they look nothing like this.
anyone seen acaras like this before? could it be something else?
pic attached~

Those are not blue acaras but an Cryptoheros / Archocentrus species
Likely Cryptoheros / Archocentrus septemfasciatus but it could also be the blue version of cutteri

very nice looking fish, but i have to say those don't look like what I'd think of as Aequidens pulcher, (I am sure those are not pulcher) pulcher is much different looking from those. If I remember correctly pulcher is a smaller type of green terror with a lot of color, and very aggressive. Looks similiar to acaras I could easily be wrong though. These guys don't even look to be in the same family, different head and body shape, they are young so that may change, but still. Good looking fish, we'll see what they look like when they grow up, and then it's easier to guess what they are.
but i bet William is right.

im suprised that my LFS, the wet spot, made a mistake on ID of the species.
but thank you guys, your help is appretiated.:19:

oh and another thing that seemed suspisious , is that when they spawned, they did it in a flower pot cave that is untypical for acaras

Definately not an acara and most definately a cryptoheros/archocentrus species. I agree that it's probably the blue Cutteri as well.

The sad thing is the LFS probably just labels them as whatever the warehouse they buy their fish from labels them as... so the people who are shipping these out to all the LFS probably got them mislabeled.
