Are you not going to medicate the tank?
Thats quite the question. It depends on many things.Like water changes and how much you feed.
Its easy to cure.Do lots of water changes and add salt to the tank but only if all the fish you have can handle salt.

Are you sure its hole in the head?

i have had 2 oscars with hole in the head , 1 died and the other survived .

the one that died had hole in the head for about 8 weeks before it died.I couldnt get it to eat at all and in the end it was extremely skinny.i think the skinnier it gets the closer it is to passing away.

I took both oscars to the vet and was told to do the following

1. treat with metronidazole, its best if you can mix it into your oscars food ,if not simply add to the water .

2.Do lots of water changes

3.feed the best food that your oscar will eat such as new life spectrum or another good brand.Iff it wont eat pellot foods just get it to eat what ever you can

4.add a small amount of aquarium salt.

i treated both my oscars exaclty the same except for one diffrence, with the one that survived i did alot more water changes , 50%-100% a day so perhaps that made the diffrence.

hope this help, all the best

This post is a few months old but that was good advice. You forgot to mention lots of water changes,at last every other day.An oscar with hole in the head needs pristine water conditions.Because thats next to impossible, lots of water changes will do!lol

Probably because we are seeing sooooooo many old threads now resurrected from the dead!
Whew! I thought it was just me!:hmm3grin2orange:
I think reading the older threads to gain good info is fantastic idea but posting an answer in them is not really neccesary.
I do realize that it is usually newbies searching out answers on their own.
Nothing wrong with searching :19: but please start a new thread!thumbs2:
